Week 3

36 CUSTOM TEXTURES

These 6x6 series of squares are 36 custom textures that represent light to dark. The aim of my light to dark textures is to apply one set of the textures to a particularly significant area within my monument.

What I kept thinking whilst drawing these textures was to convey the abundance of light from the morning sun throughout the day to when it gets dark at night. Thinking this while drawing has assisted me in giving my textures a minimalistic approach in the first few squares then I gradually add greater detail and contrast once I get to the end of each set.

Below, showcases the development process that I went through to obtain the end result. There were four major changes that my monument went through.

Cryengine landform development:

Final Cryengine landform with textures:

By the end of the development of the monument I have more details into the monument such as the windows  stairs and circulation paths in the monument. I made sure that in the end, it conveyed the electroliquid aggregation of having an Illuminated set of surfaces which unites a buoyant structure.

Inspiration?

To get a better idea of what kind of landscape i'm aiming for, i'm attaching these images of a desert kind of environment. I hope  that these images convey what i'm trying to achieve in my landscape!

Week 2

SKETCH AXONOMETRICS

The final six sketch axonometrics are derived from last weeks task of sketching 12 axonometrics which best related to the architects chosen by our tutor. The two architects chosen were Antonio Gaudi and Richard Rogers

After sketching concepts that relate to two different artists separately, the next task was to explore the interconnection between the the drawings made from week 1
The concepts i combined from week one were:
Light controlled and lightness, embracement of irregularity and exposed, and materiality and structural expressionism.

THE TWO CONCEPTS that I eventually decided upon were:
Gaudi: Light controlled
Rogers: Lightness

Electroliquid Aggregation Concept:

The combination of the two concepts which were light controlled and lightness allowed me to conjure up an Electroliquid aggregation concept :

Illuminated set of surfaces which unites a buoyant structure

Cryengine environment:

After sketching my ideas on the combination of words that related to the two architects, I settled on utilising my combination of "light controlled" and "lightness". The decision to combine these two concepts into my final design allowed a fresh ground of ideas to start off with. The environment that i have stuck with is the desert landscape that I've created from my first go at using cryengine, i've evolved the landscape abit with the creation of a lake which encircles the mountain that the monument is connected to.

The reason that the monument looks like it's floating is because the back panel of the monument is the one that holds the monument and the landscape together, essentially allowing the monument to suspend itself over the landscape below it.
